The 5th, and final free content update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne brings a legendary dragon to the Old World, a new arch-tempered foe, a new seasonal event, and several gameplay and system updates.
For fans of the game series the new monster won’t be a new face, but will certainly be welcome as the Legendary Elder Dragon Fatalis takes the stage. The Black Dragon first appeared in the original Monster Hunter as an online event exclusive, but now will be able to be encountered regularly. While encountering this fearsome foe will now be easier, the fight certainly will not be. Fatalis will sit at the top of the food chain, providing some incredible looking Hunter and Palico sets if you can use the full arsenal of dragonators and cannons at Castle Schrade to stop him. Keeping with the difficult monster theme, the arch tempered Velkhana will also be available as part of a limited time event later this month.
This update is also bringing a new skill to the table in the Clutch Claw Boost skill. With this skill, utilizing the clutch claw to grasp onto a monster will now have a little more reward, making tenderizing the monster, and slinger ammo drops more easily received. On top of having some more usability in the clutch claw, we’ll finally see all of the layered armor sets being unlocked.
This update, available for PS4, Xbox, and Steam launched at the beginning of the month and now that we’ve moved into October, will also set the stage for the Fun Fright Fest event to kick off on the 16th. The event will have unique handler and palico costumes that will add to the haunted house feel of Seliana’s Lunar Terrace, and the gathering hub as everyone joins the event. We’ll also see several new pendants, charms, jewels, room decors, and guild and squad cards both as part of the event and with the new expansion.
While this is the final free update for the Iceborne expansion, it packs a lot in. Be sure to check out the developer update video and press release below for more details, and to reminisce on all of the updates since the initial launch of Monster Hunter World back in 2018.
